Uwem Ukpong
Uwem Ukpong
is Vice President of Global Services at Amazon Web Services (AWS). In this
role, he leads experienced cloud experts from across four key business units,
including training, professional services in commercial and public sectors,
customer support and managed services, and security. Together, Global Services
empowers customers to take on transformative initiatives that drive cloud
adoption and enhance value to their business and customers. In collaboration
with our network of cloud-certified partners, Uwem and team enable customers to
rapidly scale their transformation journey from consultation on initial solution
design, to building applications, through to ongoing optimization and support.
Having
joined AWS in 2022, Uwem is passionate about helping customers achieve seamless
migration and modernization to the cloud and supporting them throughout their
entire cloud journey. As the leader of a global team distributed across 51 countries,
he’s committed to the Amazon mission to become Earth’s Best Employer, as well
as promoting inclusion, diversity, and equity within his team and across the
organization.
Uwem brings
nearly 30 years of deep industry experience across technology, operations,
energy, and software domains. He previously served as EVP Regions Alliances and
Enterprise Sales for Baker Hughes, where he led global oil and gas operations
across North America, Latin America, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East,
Asia Pacific and China, and also held positions as Chief Global Operations Officer
and VP of Integration. Among the initiatives he led while there, Uwem oversaw
the successful integration of the $32 billion merger between GE Oil & Gas
and Baker Hughes. Prior to Baker Hughes, Uwem served as President of
Schlumberger Software, where he was responsible for strategic development and
commercialization of industry software and services for reservoir
characterization, production optimization, and drilling.
Uwem earned
a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science from the Federal University
of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria, and a Master of Science in petroleum
engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
